The Sizzle Index

I set up Sizzle with the intention of using my experience, knowledge and contacts to create an organisation that can make it easier for everybody to make greener choices by changing the way products and services are delivered.

A great ambition in theory, but I have limited resources and don’t want to duplicate the efforts of others.  How can I decide where my efforts will make a difference helping to deliver rapid environmental change whilst also offering social and financial benefits?  The range of options are daunting and much time could be wasted charging down dead ends.

To provide some focus and a framework for decision-making I have been working with my board of advisors to create ‘The Sizzle Index’.  These are six questions against which potential projects can be assessed. 

The proposed questions are below.  It would be great to know what you think of these.  How can they be refined and improved?  Is anything missing, is anything spurious and equally importantly have you got any challenges that might fit within this framework?

The Sizzle Index

1.     If successful will the experiment make it easier for people to make a greener choice by changing the way a product, service or activity is delivered? 

2.     Can Sizzle realistically provoke a new approach or way of thinking by being challenging, collaborative and potentially disruptive? 

3.     Has the experiment got the potential to deliver authentic, measurable and meaningful change at scale? 

4.     Does the desired change offer environmental, financial and social benefits potentially available to a large percentage of the population? 

5.     Is anybody else doing it well? 

6.     Do we want to do it, is it feel exciting and is it financially viable for Sizzle?   

Excitingly, I have two projects in discussion which I believe have the potential to Sizzle.  These will be discussed by my Board in September and if they are as enthusiastic as I will be the initial areas of focus.
